Ramadan: Why does websites traffic goes down?

[via Adblog]

Because of my industry nature, I always check ranks and traffic statistics for the websites, especially in the Arab world. In Ramadan, I notice something a bit strange. All websites that have entertainment content showed a dramatic decrease in their traffic. Why is that?

Ramadan is a month where everybody is supposes to leave all kinds of entertainment and hit toward worships and prayers. Especially that most of the Arab world population is Muslims.  Furthermore, I noticed something more interesting; social community websites that offer user-generated-content and require user creativity showed a dramatic increase in its traffic. When I say require user creativity; I mean by that blogging, uploading videos, news posts.

However, websites that offer blogging services where on the top of the list in traffic increasing. Blogs are getting more popular in the Arab world. Most of the internet users are searching for piece of information on the web. Blogs is one of new web technologies that give them easy access for the information they seek in the field they like or interested in. At the same time, in Ramadan, people tend to find a place to they can extract the energy they used to spend on entertainment websites in something else that they can benefit from.  And I think blogging websites where the right place for them.

What is funny about this thing is that, in Ramadan, all advertisers knock the doors of entertainment websites to promote their brands. I wonder if all the websites in the region can deliver all impressions they have to deliver. Isn’t that strange!?
